President

Belinda is a founding member and currently the President of Encore, along with her role as Marketing/Sponsorship Officer.

She has directed their critically acclaimed productions of Kinky Boots, The Boy from Oz (2009 & 2023), Jersey Boys, Les Misérables (2018, picking up the Best Direction Musical Theatre award in the Tasmanian Theatre Awards), Buddy, The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and co-directed Boy’s Own McBeth and Sweeney Todd with Liz Bennett.

She also treads the boards on occasion, and favourite past performances including Madame Thenardier in Les Misérables, Godspell, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes! and Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd.

Away from theatre she has pursued a career in radio broadcasting, including ABC Local Radio 91.7FM since 2010.

Ross Marsden

Vice President

Ross has a passion for performing since his first stage appearance at 8, and over the past 30 years he has worked in community theatre and also professionally on stage and in film and television. However, his true love is the discipline of performing to a live audience.

Some of his recent stage works include Wicked (The Wizard), Mary Poppins (George Banks), Fawlty Towers (Basil Fawlty), Annie (Daddy Warbucks), Jesus Christ Superstar (King Herod), Les Misérables (Thenardier), Oliver! (Fagin) and ‘Allo ‘Allo (Rene).

Notable film and television work includes Paperback Hero with Hugh Jackman, Street Fighter with Jean-Claude  Van Damme and TV series including Medivac, Paradise Beach and Fire. Ross was cast in a new Australian  comedy pilot, The Fence, and has locally appeared in the Tas Keno and RACT Insurance television commercials.

Matt moved to Tasmania from the UK in 2005, bringing with him his dynamic personality to both the local community and the stage. 

With a lifelong background in music, Matt has lived and breathed entertainment on many levels, as a performer, ARIA charting composer, festival event promoter and an artist and repertoire director for Australian Record Label Jam Mountain Music.

Most recently, Matt played the roles of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys and Harry Bright in Mamma Mia! for which he received the award for Best Male Supporting Performance at the 2022 Tasmanian Theatre Awards.

Matt is based in Launceston with his wife Julie and three children, Maggie, Freddie and Huey.

Here’s a fun fact:  Matt is the son of 70’s Popstar, Richard Gower of Racey, who held the mantle of Australian #1 song on two occasions in 1979 and gained worldwide success with hits such as Some Girls and Lay Your Love on Me.

Wendy Flaherty

Wendy is founding member of Encore and has been involved in local theatre for 29 years. She first appeared on stage at age six at the National Theatre, which was ‘terrifying’ in a school ballet group choreographed by Joan Burnett and didn’t perform again until her mid-30s with LMS.

She loves all aspects of productions from being on stage to working with sets, hair and make-up, or even bar manager. She was Assistant Director for The Boy from Oz and Executive Producer for Fawlty Towers.

Wendy has appeared in The Sound of Music (2008 & 2018), The Boy from Oz, Les Misérables (2010 & 2018), Fawlty Towers, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jesus Christ Superstar, Buddy, Strictly Ballroom and Annie, which was a particular highlight because she shared the stage with her granddaughter, Piper Adams.

 

Rohan Foon

Rohan is the black sheep on the Encore committee as he professes to have no acting or musical talent whatsoever! He has been a committee member since 2015.

He is a Director at Douglas & Collins Lawyers practising primarily in Litigation and  2016/17 President of the Law Society of Tasmania. In addition to practise he is a member of a number of boards or tribunals including; the Disciplinary Tribunal for the Tasmanian Legal Profession, Tasmanian Law Reform Institute, Launceston Touch Football Association and a Criminal Injuries Compensation Commissioner.

Paul Mannion

Paul enjoys a multi-faceted career as a teacher, music educator, musician and conductor.

His experience on the stage extends to performances from his school days into adult life. Some of which include Oliver!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Wizard of Oz, Elijah, Barnum, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, Godspell, ‘Allo ‘Allo, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Phantom of the Opera.

With much experience behind the scenes, Paul has fulfilled such roles as Vocal Director, Conductor and Musical Director in Godspell, Man of Steel, Oliver!, Joseph and We Will Rock You.

Dwayne Parish

Dwayne brings an astonishing array of IT, Tech and Video skills to Encore.

He is responsible for integrating technology into our orchestras, ensuring we can recreate the authentic “Broadway sounds” that are specifically created for contemporary shows.

Along with his video and archiving skills, he keeps Encore at the forefront of new advances in Tasmanian theatre.

Annie Scott

Annie joined Encore in mid-2011.

Her background in leading teams in the Electoral Office, organizational skills and eye for detail has seen her take on the ever-expanding challenge of cataloging and handling the Encore wardrobe.

She is regularly a key member of the show costume teams charged with finding just the right shirt, skirt, suit, feather boa, (insert wanted costume item here!), and much more.

Di Summers

Di’s lifetime love of the theatre that has taken her from dance teacher to Director and Choreographer. She has directed and/or choreographed many local productions beginning with Oklahoma! for the Launceston Light Opera Society (now the Musical Society) and moving on to direct The Music Man, Guys and Dolls and 42nd Street to name but a few. Di has also taken to the boards in many roles having been part of dance choruses to lead roles in local productions.

She was thrilled to be invited to direct Encore’s inaugural production, The Sound of Music. Since then she has directed Nunsense A-Men and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast for Encore and taken on a number of key production roles in Volunteer Co-ordination, Front of House management, child cast supervisor, and within the costume teams.
