Awards 2022


After more than a year of pandemic cancellations and postponements, Encore Theatre Company stormed back to the stage in October 2021 with MAMMA MIA, which had been previously cancelled five days prior to opening when COVID hit Australia in March 2020.

The production received 13 nominations in the 2022 Tasmanian Theatre Awards (The Errols) in the category of COMMUNITY MUSICAL THEATRE, announced in January at the Princess Theatre.

The winners were announced at a celebration dinner on 5 March 2022 at Wrest Point, with Encore collecting the following awards:

Outstanding Production: MAMMA MIA
Outstanding Direction: DANNY GIBSON for Mamma Mia
Outstanding Musical Direction: MICHAEL STOCKS & DENISE SAM for Mamma Mia
Outstanding Choreography: MICHELLE WITHINGTON for Mamma Mia
Outstanding Male Supporting Performance: MATT GOWER for Mamma Mia
Outstanding Ensemble: Cast of MAMMA MIA
Outstanding Costume Design: ANTHONY PHILLIPS for Mamma Mia
Outstanding Lighting or Video/Film Design: JASON BOVAIRD: Lighting Design for Mamma Mia
Outstanding Sound Design: MARCELLO LO RICCO for Mamma Mia

Since the inaugural awards in 2015, Encore have received 106 nominations and won 43 ‘Errols’.
